Date – 1 June 2026

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (8,066) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.

A total of (31,072) people have been arrested by the junta for opposing their arbitrary seizure of power. Of those arrested, (14,261) are confirmed to still be in detention, while (7,879) remain to be verified.

These are the numbers reported by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP). The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

The junta forces’ targeted attacks on civilians have worsened, and according to monitoring conducted by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP), (110) civilians were killed during the four weeks of May 2026.

Political prisoners held in prisons across the country continue to suffer from a lack of access to their full rights, as well as inadequate medical care. This has led to further deaths. In May, the death of two political prisoners in Pyay Prison, and one in Daik-U Prison, Bago Region, highlights how dire prison conditions have become.

Myo Tint has died while being held in Daik-U Prison. He was captured by junta forces in February 2023 and became seriously ill while in custody. He requested medical treatment and was taken to Bago General Hospital, but was denied admission on the grounds that he was a prisoner and his blood pressure was normal. As a result, he did not receive adequate medical care. He was then scheduled to go to the hospital for treatment a second time, but was again denied access because senior officials were visiting the prison. On the evening of May 16, 2026, his condition worsened, so he was transferred to Bago General Hospital on May 17. However, he died at approximately 5 p.m., after his oxygen levels dropped.
