Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (8,055) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.
A total of (31,030) people have been arrested by the junta for opposing their arbitrary seizure of power. Of those arrested, (14,249) are confirmed to still be in detention, while (7,881) remain to be verified.
These are the numbers verified by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP). The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
According to the data collected by AAPP, from 1 February 2021 coup to May 22, 2026, (383) people in total died in formal detention facilities across the country; (4) women and (137) men in interrogation; (3) women, (40) men, and (1) LGBT in police stations; and (34) women and (164) men in prisons. These are numbers that have been verified.
Junta forces arrested Thet Thet Mar (aka Mi Thet), a resident of Myit Tar Myaing Ward, Taze Township, Sagaing Region, for allegedly supplying food and collecting donations for People’s Defense Force (PDF) members, as well as failing to report information about them. She was sentenced to 20 years in a police station under sections of the Penal Code and Counter-Terrorism Law. However, instead of being transferred to a prison, she remained in custody at Taze Police Station. While in detention, she suffered from rheumatoid arthritis. Although she requested medical treatment, her request was denied, which led to the deterioration of her condition. She died at approximately 5:00 a.m. on March 27, 2026, in custody at Taze Police Station. Although her family were notified of her death, her body was not returned to them.
