Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (8,051) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.
A total of (31,016) people have been arrested by the junta for opposing their arbitrary seizure of power. Of those arrested, (14,244) are confirmed to still be in detention, while (7,874) remain to be verified.
These are the numbers verified by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP). The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
According to the data collected by AAPP, from January 1 to May 20, 2026, (82) people in total; (40) women and (42) men, were killed by the junta in Bago Region, including (25) children under the age of 18. The youngest recorded deaths were two boys, aged two years old. The identities of these victims have been verified. Among them, (37) people were killed by the junta’s airstrikes marking the highest cause of death. During the stated period in that region, the AAPP has also received information regarding the death of (24) civilians, as a result of junta attacks, whose identities have yet to be confirmed.
On May 7, junta forces conducted an aerial bombing using jet fighter aircraft on villages in Phyu Township and Htantabin Township, Bago Region. A bomb exploded in Thit Chauk Khin Village, Phyu Township. The resulting bomb shrapnel killed two individuals, Myo Min Oo and Than Zaw.
