Date – 2 April 2026

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (7,962) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.

A total of (30,755) people have been arrested by the junta in connection with opposition to the arbitrary seizure of power. Of those arrested, (14,366) are confirmed to still be in detention, while (7,883) remain to be verified.

These are the numbers verified by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP). The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to the data collected by AAPP, from January 1 to March 1, 2026, (36) people in total; (18) women and (18) men, were killed in detainment by the junta across the country, including (16) children under the age of 18. The youngest recorded death was a two-year-old boy. These are the numbers that have been verified. This number includes (3) men who were killed after being detained and then set on fire following their death. Among the (36) deaths, Bago Region records the highest number of fatalities, totaling (31).

On March 5, junta troops from Infantry Battalion No. 264 (IB-264), Light Infantry Battalion No. 439 (LIB-439) and coalition forces launched an offensive into Yae Twin Kone Village Tract in Kyaukkyi Township, Bago Region, and arbitrarily arrested numerous residents. On March 7, 2026, clashes broke out between this junta troop and the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA). During the clashes, junta forces carried out a retaliatory airstrike, killing at least 31 of the people they had captured.
