Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (7,856) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.
Since the coup, a total of (30,581) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (22,581) are currently in detention, (11,388) of whom are serving sentences.
These are the numbers verified by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP). The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
During a visit by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to Thayarwady Prison in Bago Region, political prisoners reported on prison conditions and human rights violations. Following the visit, three political prisoners who led the effort were beaten. Then, other political prisoners who protested against the beating were also beaten by prison staff and their detained lackeys, who entered the ward wielding slingshots and sticks.
In addition, the civilian death toll continues to rise on a daily basis, due to the junta’s targeted attacks on civilians. According to monitoring by the Documentation and Research Department of the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP), at least (86) civilians were killed in the first week of March. According to ground reports, on March 1, junta forces bombed Leik Poke Village in Pinlebu Township, Sagaing Region, killing around ten civilians, including children. On March 4, junta forces also bombed Pi Tauk Kone and Ma Yoe Tone Villages in Pale Township, Sagaing Region, killing seven people, including elderly individuals.
