Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (7,804) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.
Since the coup, a total of (30,476) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (22,780) are currently in detention, (11,532) of whom are serving sentences.
These are the numbers verified by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP). The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
According to the data collected by AAPP, from January 1 to February 17, 2026, the junta killed (21) people in total in Rakhine State; (11) women and (10) men, including (3) children under the age of 18. The youngest recorded death was a two month old boy. These are the numbers that have been verified. Among these deaths, (15) people were killed by the junta’s airstrikes marking the highest cause of death. The other (6) individuals were killed by the junta’s artillery strikes.
On February 12, junta forces conducted an aerial bombing on Sittwe Township, Rakhine State. The bomb landed and exploded in Ah Lel Zay Ward, where internally displaced persons from Byaing Hpyu Village had taken refuge. The explosion instantly killed Aung Linn Soe, his wife Thandar Soe, and their two-month-old child, Aung Linn Hein, due to bomb shrapnel.
