Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (7,761) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.


Since the coup, a total of (30,426) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (22,805) are currently in detention, (11,534) of whom are serving sentences.


These are the numbers verified by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP). The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.


Over the past week, junta forces have continued committing acts of terror, including killing civilians, conducting arbitrary arrests, and raiding and burning down villages. On February 3, they raided Aung Pauk Village in Taungdwingyi Township, Magway Region, and apprehended around 15 youths. On February 6, they raided Nyaung Pin Sauk Village in Pwintbyu Township, burned down more than 10 houses, and apprehended more than 20 people.


In addition, junta forces have been carrying out aerial bombings on civilian areas. On February 5, they bombed Mi Ae Village in Saw Township, Magway Region, killing five women, including two schoolgirls, and destroying many homes. According to reports on the ground, on the same day, they bombed Mingalar Monastery in Thit Say Kone Village, Taze Township, Sagaing Region, killing five people, including a novice.
