Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (7,729) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.


Since the coup, a total of (30,334) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (22,756) are currently in detention, (11,494) of whom are serving sentences.


These are the numbers verified by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP). The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.


According to the data collected by AAPP, from January 1 to 27, 2026, the junta killed (39) women in total across the country, including (4) girls under the age of 18. These are the numbers that have been verified. Among them, Sagaing Region records the highest number of fatalities, with (11) women killed. (8) women were killed in both Kachin State and Bago Region. Meanwhile, (30) women were killed by the junta’s airstrikes, recording the highest cause of death.


On January 22, at approximately 4 p.m., junta forces carried out aerial bombing attacks on Kawng Jar Village in Bhamo Township, Kachin State. As a result, at least 22 people, including eight women, were killed, and many others were injured by bomb shrapnel while they were in a funeral house.
