Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (7,651) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.
Since the coup, a total of (30,229) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (22,690) are currently in detention, (11,434) of whom are serving sentences.
These are the numbers verified by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP). The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
According to the data collected by AAPP, from January 1, 2025 to January 6, 2026, (33) people in total; (15) women and (18) men, were killed by the junta in Mon State, including (8) children under the age of 18. The identities of these victims have been verified. Among these deaths, (18) people were killed by the junta’s artillery strikes marking the highest cause of deaths, followed by (11) people who were killed by the junta’s airstrikes. During the stated period, the AAPP has also received information regarding the death of (13) civilians, as a result of junta attacks, whose identities have yet to be confirmed.
On January 2, 2026, at approximately 8 a.m., the junta forces, stationed in Bilin Township, Mon State, fired heavy weapons. The explosions struck Ah Lu Village, killing Than Naing, Than Htay, and an unidentified man due to artillery shrapnel.
