While much of the international community remains reluctant to engage with Myanmar’s generals after coup leader Min Aung Hlaing installed himself as president, China has moved quickly to deepen ties, dispatching a stream of delegates to Naypyitaw and Yangon.

On Tuesday, Xu Qin, chairman of the Standing Committee of the Heilongjiang Provincial People’s Congress and secretary of the CPC Heilongjiang Provincial Committee, met Min Aung Hlaing for talks in Naypyitaw. His visit—the first by a high-level foreign official since the junta chief’s inauguration earlier this month— comes ahead of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s trip to Naypyitaw this weekend.

According to regime media, the two sides discussed “Pauk‑Phaw” (fraternal) relations, China’s five principles of peaceful coexistence, and building a “China‑Myanmar community with a shared future.” They also pledged to strengthen cooperation across multiple sectors and exchange goodwill visits between senior leaders.
