A bombing inside Mandalay’s Obo Prison on the morning of 8 August killed at least seven political prisoners, according to the Political Prisoners Network-Myanmar (PPNM), reporting on 17 August.
The blasts struck wards 4 and 6 of the men’s section, killing prisoners who were being held on charges under counter-terrorism and penal code provisions.
PPNM said its investigation confirmed the deaths and that it is still working to verify the number of injured and the identities of all those killed.
The junta has denied involvement in the attack and has instead reportedly beaten and interrogated political prisoners, accusing them of responsibility, the group said.
