Bloody Air Raids on Thandwe and Ngapali Leave 3 Dead, 21 Injured, AA Says

At least three civilians, including a pregnant woman, were killed and 21 others injured after the Myanmar military junta launched multiple airstrikes on Thandwe and Ngapali townships in southern Rakhine State over a two-day period.

According to reports from the Arakan Army (AA), the military council utilized jet fighters to target residential areas, schools, monasteries, and houses in Thandwe town, as well as the Jitto and Lintha wards of Ngapali.

The three deceased victims were identified as Daw Nyunt Thuza, a 30-year-old pregnant woman, Maung Zai Set, 18, and Maung Win Min Than, 22. Among the 21 wounded civilians are two children under the age of 10.

The bombardments began on July 23, targeting Jitto and Lintha wards in Ngapali. The attacks escalated heavily on July 24, when junta jet fighters bombed residential zones in Thandwe from 12:20 AM until 3:40 PM.

Locals reported that one of the deadliest strikes occurred at 12:20 AM on July 24 while residents were asleep. A junta fighter jet dropped two bombs near the "Shwe Yee Restaurant" in Ward 7 of Thandwe, wounding seven innocent civilians and destroying three homes.

In addition, at around 11:20 a.m. on July 24, a jet fighter from the terrorist military junta bombed the town and its surrounding areas again. The bombs detonated on and around the street in front of the "Shwe Yee Restaurant." A student riding a motorcycle on the road was struck by the blast and died on the spot. This attack also killed another innocent civilian and injured ten others.

Earlier that day, at around 12:26 a.m. on July 24, 2026, the terrorist military junta conducted two airstrikes with a jet fighter near the school in Rekok Village, Thandwe Township, damaging several school buildings.

Later that evening, at approximately 3:40 p.m. on July 24, 2026, a junta jet fighter dropped two bombs near a monastery and a school in Ward No. 8 of Thandwe.

The bombs exploded in the courtyard of the Thitsar Yaung Chi Oo Monastery and the courtyard of U Maung Lay’s house next to the school. The explosions instantly killed an innocent pregnant woman, Daw Nyu Thuza.

Furthermore, four innocent civilians, including two children under the age of ten, were injured, while a school and two houses were destroyed.

Military and political analysts suggest that these bombings and killings of Rakhine civilians are part of the coup junta's strategy to pressure the Arakan Army (AA) into peace talks within a 100-day deadline.

Given the reports of ongoing airstrikes across Rakhine State, residents are urged to remain highly vigilant and take extra precautions against future aerial attacks.
