Bangladesh MoFA summons Myanmar ambassador over cross-border gunfire

The Foreign Ministry of Bangladesh has reportedly called upon the Myanmar Ambassador to Bangladesh, Kyaw Soe Moe, on the afternoon of Tuesday, January 13.
Bangladesh has conveyed its deep concern regarding the recent gunfire from Myanmar into Bangladesh close to the Wakhup Stream in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar.
A 12-year-old girl from Bangladesh sustained severe injuries due to cross-border gunfire on Sunday.
Bangladesh has issued a warning, stating that the unprovoked shooting into its territory is a blatant violation of international law and undermines the friendly relations between neighboring countries.
Bangladesh urged Myanmar to assume complete accountability and implement required actions to prevent future incidents of cross-border firing. Bangladesh urged the authorities and armed factions in Myanmar to ensure that their actions do not impact the livelihoods of the people in Bangladesh, as stated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The ambassador of Myanmar confirmed that his government would implement actions to prevent such events from happening again and extended his heartfelt sympathies to those who were injured and their families, as stated in the report.
