Kim Aris has called for the immediate release of his mother Aung San Suu Kyi during the 29th Forum 2000 Conference in Prague, Czech Republic entitled “Facing the Odds: Democratic Resilience in Action”.

The conference is running from 12-14 October.

Speaking through an online video call, Mr Aris addressed participants of the Forum 2000 in Prague with a call to join the appeal for the release of Aung San Su Kyi and all political prisoners in Myanmar.

Mr Aris’ appeal was followed by the opening keynote speech by the President of the Czech Republic, Petr Pavel.

“Aung San Suu Kyi was a friend of Václav Havel, the founder of Forum 2000, and she currently serves as an advisor of the Forum 2000 Advisory Board,” Mr Aris said. “In light of this profound connection, I call on all participants of this conference to support our efforts to secure her immediate release and facilitate the restoration of democracy in Burma. The people of Burma have achieved so much in their struggle against the brutal military junta but they still need the help of the international community. They need our help.

“As democrats around the world, it is our collective responsibility to support them, to ensure my mother and thousands of other political prisoners are released and to see all their fundamental human rights are restored.
