At Least Six Serving Generals to Contest Myanmar’s Poll Under Junta’s USDP Banner

At least six serving generals will stand as candidates for the military’s proxy Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) in Myanmar junta’s upcoming election, military sources told The Irrawaddy.


The six lieutenant generals reportedly seeking seats in Parliament are: Lt. Gen Tayza Kyaw, Commander of Bureau Special Operation 3 (BSO 3); Lt. Gen Soe Tint Naing, Defense Services Inspector and Auditor; Defense Services Inspector General Lt. Gen Thet Pon; Adjutant General Lt Gen Phone Myat; Military Appointments General Lt-Gen Lin Aung; and Chief of Defense Industries Lt-Gen Kan Myint.


Also reportedly being lined up as a USDP candidate is ex-general Aung Lin Dwe, one of junta boss Min Aung Hlaing’s closest confidants.
