Some houses in Nghetkyee Kyun Village, Ponnagyun Township, 16 miles north of Sittwe, were damaged by artillery shells that were launched from Sittwe's battalions in Rakhine State.
At approximately 12:30 PM on August 26, artillery shells struck and destroyed several homes in Nghetkyee Kyun, according to a local woman.
"The village is not crowded. A few weeks ago, everyone was running for their lives. The majority of the homes in the village were unoccupied, so there were no injuries. Despite the destruction of a few homes, nobody was hurt. We now have fled my village to safer locations," she said.
