On 12 August, Myanmar’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Kyaw Moe Tun to the UN issued a statement urging the UN Security Council to take urgent and decisive action against the military junta, citing the escalating humanitarian crisis, widespread displacement, and increased deaths at sea that are negatively impacting regional and international peace and security.

At the outset, I wish to congratulate Panama for assuming the UNSC Presidency of this month and thank the presidency of Panama for organizing this important debate.
