On January 15, the Myanmar Women’s Union (BWU) reported that in 2025, air and ground attacks by the military regime resulted in the deaths of 792 women and injuries to 815 others across the country.
As stated in the records of the Myanmar Women’s Union, the greatest number of women killed, totaling 621, was a result of aerial bombardment. This was followed by 102 women who lost their lives due to artillery shelling, 39 due to random killings, and additional deaths resulting from landmines and arson attacks.
On January 18, 2025, a tragic event occurred when the military commission bombed the vicinity of Ramchaung in Mrauk-U Township, Rakhine State, leading to the death of as many as 21 women simultaneously.
Regionally, the highest number of deaths occurred in Sagaing Region, where 217 women lost their lives; Mandalay Region followed with 123 deaths, and Rakhine State recorded 119 fatalities. Among the casualties were 154 females under the age of 18, including five pregnant women.
A total of 815 women sustained injuries, and 576 lost their lives as a result of airstrikes. The BWU also indicated that 26 women sustained injuries due to sexual violence related to the conflict.
The Myanmar Women’s Union cautions that the actual number of casualties in the field is probably much higher, despite the fact that the statistics are derived from trustworthy media and field information.
The military junta has persisted for nearly five years after the coup, but widespread war crimes and crimes against humanity are still being perpetrated throughout the nation in various forms.
Reports indicate that civilian women, especially those who are not associated with the military, are experiencing daily fatalities due to the intentional assaults by the military commission.
