AAPP Releases: Number of casualties reaches 8,332 during Myanmar’s Spring Revolution

The number of people who have lost their lives during the Spring Revolution due to arrests and killings by the military junta after the coup has reached 8,332, according to records updated by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP) up to 31 August.

Among the 8,332 casualties whose names have been verified by AAPP, 2,287 are women and 1,107 are children. Additionally, there are approximately 5,300 deaths that still require further verification.

Furthermore, from 1 February 2021, to 31 August 2026, a total of 31,852 people have been arrested and detained. Of these, 14,765 remain in custody. Among those detained, 6,587 are women and 640 are children, according to AAPP.

The Myanmar military junta continues to commit human rights violations by deliberately targeting civilians. Throughout August, they carried out military offensives into villages, airstrikes, heavy artillery shelling, burning down homes, and arresting civilians to use as human shields, AAPP stated.

AAPP noted that its figures are based on data they have collected and verified, and that the actual number of deaths and arrests on the ground may be significantly higher than the figures presented. AAPP added that they will continue to update the lists as new information is available.

The association has also urged the public to send information regarding anyone arrested, detained, prosecuted, or killed during the Spring Revolution – including civil society leaders, civilians, activists, journalists, and Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) staff – directly to AAPP.
