The Arakan Army (AA) attacked Dhanyawaddy naval headquarters in Thit Phut Taung of Kyaukphyu township, killing around 20 soldiers, including some officers, said local sources.

On the night of 5 March, the AA fighters launched a simultaneous attack on Thit Phut Taung naval headquarters and nearby combat ships using more than 10 artillery pieces.

Some of the artillery shells landed in the naval headquarters compound and exploded, a local military source informed Narinjara.

"On 5 March, the AA fighters targeted the navy bases and ships at the jetty with artillery. I heard that at least 10 shells were fired, hitting the naval headquarters. The following morning, we witnessed injured individuals being transported to Kyaukpyu hospital and Battalion 34's hospital," added the source.

Around 20 individuals lost their lives when an artillery shell struck the barracks during the assault.

"To the best of my knowledge, approximately 20 people, including officers, perished. Additionally, the navy properties were also damaged," said another local source.

Meanwhile, the AA claimed responsibility for the attack on Thit Phut Taung (Dhanyawaddy) naval headquarters near Kyaukpyu, which is the second largest naval headquarters in Myanmar. The AA fighters bypassed the battlefields of Thai Chaung Ka Kin, Min Pyin Ka Kin and Do Ma Taung Ka Kin to execute a fierce military operation.

As the junta forces were facing setbacks in the battles against AA fighters, they had resorted to bombing on hospitals, schools, monasteries, markets and even refugee camps in the Rakhine region using jet fighters, Y12s, and drones.
