The Arakan Army (AA) has reportedly assaulted two outposts that protect the entrance to the Regional Military Headquarters (Dakasa) located in Sittwe, Rakhine State.

According to a local source communicating with Narinjara, the outposts situated at Kyandaw, close to Tawkan village, and those positioned opposite Gangaw Kyun in Sittwe township have been subjected to assaults since the beginning of January.

“These two outposts serve as the primary line of defense for Dakasa. They are fortified with trenches and communication pathways. The AA mainly conducts attacks during the night utilizing drones, heavy weaponry, and guerrilla tactics,” the source stated.

Another informed source affiliated with the military disclosed that junta army personnel have suffered casualties due to AA drones and artillery strikes, with the Dakasa headquarters also coming under attack. "Soldiers from the outposts, patrol units, and headquarters have all lost their lives in the attacks," the source reported.

The military situation in Sittwe is tense because of recent attacks by the AA.

After the AA attack, several military battalions from the junta stationed in Sittwe have responded by deploying drones and firing artillery shells at Rathedaung, Pauktaw, and Ponnagyun.

On January 4, an attack by an AA drone on a military vehicle that was patrolling in Sittwe Township led to the deaths of three police officers and left several others injured. In recent days, AA drones have been aiming at military commission vehicles that patrol villages surrounding Sittwe, including Thein Tan.
