88 women killed in military attacks during March: BWU

Burmese Women’s Union (BWU) reported that 88 women, including three pregnant ladies and 20 minors, were killed by the Myanmar military’s air and ground forces across the country during March 2026. At the same time, 54 women were injured in the period.

The aerial bombardments were the deadliest threats claiming 57 lives. The BWU report also documented 21 extrajudicial killings, four deaths due to arson, and three because of heavy artillery firing. Other fatalities resulted from conflict-related sexual violence, deaths in detention, and landmine explosions.

On 5 March, the military reportedly killed 17 women with bombings on Khru Kone and Kyaung Kone villages. In a separate incident that took place in Bago division’s Nyaung Lay Bin township, a woman’s body was found in a well.

Sagaing division recorded the highest number of fatalities with 37 deaths, followed by Bago division with 28 and Magway division with five casualties.

The BWU also recorded injuries by airstrikes (48), landslides related to conflict (4), artillery and gunfire. While these figures were collected from field reports and reliable media outlets, the BWU apprehended that the actual number of casualties would be higher.

The report concluded by condemning the military junta’s continued rights violations, including war crimes and crimes against humanity. It claimed that the women remain vulnerable and faced lethal violence and conflict-related sexual assaults in daily lives.
