Narinjara News, January 14, 2026

Reports indicate that 52 individuals associated with a terrorist group, who escaped to Bangladesh following confrontations with the Arakan Army—a national liberation army based in Myanmar—were brought before the court today and charged under the Unlawful Encroachment Act.

One of the individuals who was arrested is presently undergoing treatment at Chittagong Medical College Hospital due to severe injuries.

The detained persons consist of 29 members of the Arakan Rohingya Army (ARA), three members of the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA), and 18 individuals from the Arakan Independent Mahaz (AIM), as well as two additional persons. According to a report from the Bangladesh Police, all of them are from the Kutupalong refugee camp and other Rohingya refugee camps recognized by the UN.

The detained individuals were taken to Cox’s Bazar District Court from Teknaf Police Station at approximately 2:15 pm on Tuesday.

On Sunday, the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) apprehended 57 individuals, which included members of an armed group, for illegally crossing the border into the country via the Teknaf border. They were subsequently transferred to the Teknaf police station, as stated by OC Saiful Islam.

Four of the detained individuals, including two Bangladeshis who were fishing in the Nat River, were released after their identities were confirmed.

Out of the 53 individuals who were arrested, one was taken to the hospital in Chittagong due to serious injuries, whereas the other 52 were presented in court.

Moreover, Nayek Charwarul Mostafa, a member of the 64th BGB battalion located in Okiya, filed a case against the 53 persons under the Unlawful Encroachment Act at the Teknaf police station on Sunday evening.

The 52 people listed in the case appeared in a Cox's Bazar court on Tuesday afternoon, as verified by the court's attorney general. He stated that additional measures will be implemented against the accused as per the court's order following the hearing.
