30 prisoners released in Paletwa to commemorate Dr Nyo Htun Aung’s birthday

The United League of Arakan /Arakanese Army (ULA/AA) has released 30 prisoners of war (PoW) from Paletwa to commemorate the 45th birthday of its deputy commander-in-chief of AA Dr Nyo Htun Aung that falls on 4 March.


The prisoners, including former military commission members and police officers, held by the AA fighters in Paletwa locality of Chin State, were released at 8:30 am.


The released individuals include at least 16 PoW, one police officer, five family members and eight civilian prisoners.


U Kan Yein from the Khumi ethnic group expressed his gratitude for his release and thanked all the AA leaders and officials, who took care of him during the detention.


So far, over 2,000 prisoners of war, their family members, former police officers along with their families and civilian prisoners, held by the AA in Rakhine State and Paletwa locality have been released on different occasions.


Paletwa, a district town of southern Chin State, was occupied by the AA freedom fighters in January 2024.
