12 Killed, Including Newborn, as Myanmar Junta Airstrikes Hit Four Rakhine Townships
Myanmar junta airstrikes across four townships in Rakhine State killed at least 12 civilians—including a newborn baby—and injured 32 others on November 1, 2026, according to the Arakan Army (AA).
The strikes targeted Kyauktaw, Mrauk-U, Kyaukphyu, and Pauktaw (Wira Thani) townships.
At around 5:25 p.m., a junta jet fighter bombed a bridge connecting Wa Taung and Pan Phe Chaung villages in Kyauktaw Township.
The attack killed seven pedestrians and injured seven others, while destroying the bridge along with nearby homes and motorbikes.
"A jet dropped over 10 bombs, and another aircraft—likely a Y-12—circled dropping numerous bombs.
Fires were visible near the Kan Sauk mountain range," a Kyauktaw resident told Narinjara.
Minutes later, at 5:27 p.m., two jet fighters dropped four cluster bombs near a temporary clinic and maternity ward in Mrauk-U Township's Thammaraj ward.
The strike killed five civilians, including a newborn infant, and injured nine others, including healthcare staff.
The clinic and surrounding residential structures sustained severe damage.
Earlier that evening around 5:00 p.m., two jets bombed Sane Min Pyin village in Kyaukphyu Township, injuring 11 civilians—five women and six men—and damaging several homes.
The wave of attacks began before dawn at 3:58 a.m., when a Y-12 transport plane bombed Pauktaw town and nearby Ywa Chaung Gyi village, injuring five civilians and damaging houses.
In a statement, the AA confirmed that the single-day barrage left 12 civilians dead and 32 wounded, with several children among the casualties.
