TNLA Signs Truce With Myanmar Junta, Agrees to Return Mogoke, Mongmit

ree

The ethnic Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA), facing intense pressure from Beijing, said Wednesday it signed a ceasefire agreement with Myanmar’s military regime at China-brokered peace talks held in Kunming, Yunnan Province on Oct. 27 and 28.

The ethnic army said that under the terms of a deal brokered by Chinese special envoy to Myanmar Deng Xijun, it agreed to return the liberated towns of Mogoke in Mandalay Region and Mongmit in northern Shan State to the regime.

Under the deal, the junta agreed not to launch offensives or airstrikes on the remaining territory controlled by the TNLA. The truce came into effect Wednesday.
