Thai authorities provided temporary shelter to residents who fled the Karen National Union (KNU) headquarters area in Maw Pae Ko and Thay Bay Hta, near the Thai-Myanmar border, after junta aircraft dropped at least 20 bombs on 10 August. The displaced are currently staying at Myat Thale Monastery, according to local reports.

Residents said the airstrike occurred at 7:47 pm, shortly after the KNU had issued an air raid warning ahead of the 75th Karen Martyrs’ Day on 12 August. The junta used a Y-12 transport aircraft to carry out the bombing, targeting the KNU headquarters.

One person was injured, but the nearby hospital was not damaged, locals said.

The strike came as the KNU continued its offensive to remove all junta bases near the Thai-Myanmar border. In recent months, the junta has carried out at least four additional kamikaze drone attacks on the KNU headquarters.
