A coordinated rocket attack targeting the military junta’s North-Western Military Command (Na Ma Kha) headquarters in Monywa, Sagaing Region, left eight people dead and more than 20 others injured, according to a senior official from the National Unity Government (NUG).

Resistance forces launched five 107 mm improvised rockets at the strategic base at approximately 9:55 pm on 19 May.

Four of the projectiles successfully penetrated the perimeter and detonated inside the military compound, NUG Deputy Minister of Home Affairs and Immigration Kyaw Ni confirmed to Mizzima.

He also stated that during this revolutionary period, both sides continuously monitor each other’s intelligence, and that the resistance forces remain prepared to launch operations whenever opportunities arise.

Following the attack, reports indicated that several senior officers from the North-Western Military Command were killed.

Local media also reported that the military junta responded by firing artillery shells into nearby villages.

Kyaw Ni further said that the military junta is intensifying efforts to divide the population and the revolutionary forces, and may escalate its repression, including aerial bombardments and artillery shelling in both urban and rural areas.

He urged the public to recognize the real perpetrators behind such incidents and to continue supporting the revolution, expressing hope for a swift victory.

He added that there would be both victories and losses throughout the course of the conflict until it ends, and that the resistance is constantly developing new strategies and tactics to achieve success.

He also noted that, as this is a people’s revolution, coordination is ongoing not only with armed groups under the NUG but also with other revolutionary organizations currently involved in the struggle, even if they are not formally aligned.

The attack was carried out by the People’s Police, Security and Counter-Terrorism Special Task Force (SSTF), along with allied groups including the Justice Brothers Force, the Golden Triangle Alliance Battalion, and the Sadaung Thunder Group.

The North-Western Command in Monywa serves as the command-and-control centre for the military junta’s operations across Sagaing Region, Magway Region, and Chin State.

It is also a key strategic military headquarters; housing paratrooper units and gyrocopters used for conducting airstrikes in Upper Myanmar.

The SSTF, which claimed responsibility for the attack, stated that it will continue its operations until the military dictatorship is completely dismantled.
