Myanmar Navy Shelling Wounds 6 Civilians

Four Myanmar Navy warships fired nearly 90 heavy weapon rounds at the coasts of Rakhine State and Ayeyarwady Division on July 8, 2026, injuring six civilians.

According to a statement from the Arakan Army (AA), the continuous naval shelling damaged homes and injured local residents in Kyintali Town, located in Gwa Township.

The victims include four women and two men: 5-year-old Ma Yadana Htun, 17-year-old Ma Thin Thiri Htun, 45-year-old Daw Kyaung, 50-year-old Daw Mi Waing, 74-year-old Daw Than May, and 48-year-old U Nyo Htun.

The military vessels patrolled the coastline from morning until afternoon, launching a total of 87 artillery shells near the coasts of Rakhine and the Kyaung and Bawmi coastal areas in neighboring Ayeyarwady Division.

In a separate incident on the night of July 7, 2026, the military launched two airstrikes using jet fighters in Kyaukme Township. The bombings took place at 10:00 PM and 11:30 PM.

The AA stated that the military is increasingly targeting non-military civilian areas with airstrikes and naval bombardment following a series of battlefield losses and rising casualties along the Rakhine-Ayeyarwady border.
