A military airstrike on an internally displaced persons (IDP) camp west of Pekon town in Karenni State killed three civilians, including a young child, according to the Pekon Township Public Security Team.
The strike occurred around 10:30 pm on 7 July, when three bombs were dropped on the camp. One of the bombs reportedly failed to explode.
Among the dead were a 4-year-old child, a 26-year-old woman, and a 26-year-old man, all members of a displaced family sheltering at the camp, Pekon Township Public Security Team said.
“They’re labelling the refugee camp as a terrorist base, killing civilians, and terrorizing unarmed people. Everyone is living in fear,” a local resident said in a statement shared by the Pekon Township Public Security Team.
Three others were injured in the attack, including a pregnant woman who sustained serious wounds.
