Myanmar junta authorities have been entering homes and abducting young people for forced military service in Pathein Township, Ayeyarwady Region, according to local residents.

On 1 July, junta forces reportedly arrested a 32-year-old man from Ward 10 and another young person from Ward 6 in Pathein Township, taking them from their homes. Residents said the arrests were carried out by combined teams of junta troops, police, and ward or village administrators.

“This month, young people have been going around in fear of being seized from their homes. The Township Military Service Team is summoning them. The military and police are keeping watch over the youth at night. They are unfairly seizing people. We haven’t heard of any wealthy people’s sons being called for military service,” a Pathein resident told Mizzima.
