Internally displaced persons (IDPs) and residents in Demoso, Hpruso, Baw La Khe, and Nan Mae Khon townships in Karenni State are facing an acute water crisis, with some resorting to using water from mountain streams, IDPs told Mizzima.
Demoso Township, which hosts the largest number of displaced people, is the hardest hit.
A woman sheltering in the western part of the township described the dire situation.
“The water comes from a small stream. It’s already scarce and gets worse in March. Now, we have to buy water just to survive,” she said.
