One year after initiating a brutal military coup, the family of Myanmar’s military dictator senior general Min Aung Hlaing, purchased a luxury mansion worth around $3 million (Baht 98 million) in Bangkok, said the Justice For Myanmar (JFM).

The ultra-luxury property, located in Issara Residence Rama 9 development in the Thai capital city was purchased in 2022, when the country was witnessing endless turmoil with a series of killings, mass arrests, torture, rape, bombing of schools and hospitals by the junta forces, added a fresh investigative report by JFM which was released on 25 March.

The investigation revealed that the property was acquired through a proxy company to bypass the necessary Thai restrictions on land ownership and also to evade international sanctions.

he purchase was negotiated in the name of Myo Yadanar Htike, the daughter-in-law of Min Aung Hlaing, who is not currently subjected to international sanctions, unlike her husband Aung Pyae Sone.

The sale was brokered by Htun Min Latt, a Myanmar junta crony and arms dealer, who is close to the Min Aung Hlaing family, just before his arrest in September 2022 on the charges of money laundering and drug trafficking.

Although the Thai authorities arrested Htun Min Latt and seized documents relating to his association with the Min Aung Hlaing family, a Thai court acquitted him in January 2024.

Despite this, the JFM asserts that the property is held through a Thai-registered company named Emerald Princess Co Ltd, established shortly before the property was transferred to camouflage the real owners.

“It is outrageous that war criminal Min Aung Hlaing and his family were able to invest their ill-gotten wealth in Thailand while he continued to commit acts of violence against the Burmese people with impunity,” said JFM spokesperson Ma Yadana Maung.

Finally the JFM called on the Thai authorities to urgently investigate the high-value property purchase, citing violations of Thai laws and the failure to prevent the flow of illicit funds from the Myanmar junta to Thailand. It also urged the seizure of these assets to be held until a legitimate federal democratic government is established in Myanmar.

The Burmese people have now entered their sixth year of resistance against the military regime. The JFM emphasizes that the junta's access to funds, weapons, and jet fuel must be restricted.
