Magnitude 5 earthquake strikes near Taungdwingyi today

A moderate earthquake with a magnitude of 5.0 on the Richter scale struck near Taungdwingyi Township, Magway Region,on Myanmar's Thingyan Akya Day which falls on April 14 , according to a statement from the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH).

The tremor occurred at 2:32 a.m. Myanmar Standard Time, centered approximately 12 miles southeast of Taungdwingyi Township, at a depth of around 11 kilometers, the DMH announced.
