A North Okkalapa Township resident told DVB that an elderly couple were injured in their home when a 3.9 magnitude earthquake struck Yangon at 11 p.m. on Friday.
“She was hit by a bathroom door. Her husband was struck on the head by items falling from a shelf,” the resident told DVB on the condition of anonymity. “We panicked. Most people living in highrise buildings fled to the ground floor.”
Residents of Insein, Mayangone, Hlaing, Kamaryut, Shwepyitha, and Hlaingthaya townships in Yangon Region reported to DVB that they felt the quake in their homes and quickly evacuated their families outdoors, where some spent the night on the street.
“Since we live in a high-rise, we’ve been monitoring earthquake news after the March 28 quake. When it struck last night, people from almost every apartment rushed downstairs,” a Hlaing Township resident told DVB. “Some stayed outside all night. They were worried,” he added.
