Eight-year-old boy killed by unexploded ordnance in Ann

An unexploded ordnance caused the death of an eight-year-old boy in Ann Township, Rakhine State, yesterday.
According to Arakan Princess Media (APM), the child who passed away has been recognized as eight-year-old Maung Min Htet, residing in Out Ywa (Sei Sai Kone) within Ann Township.
Yesterday, January 19, at approximately 4:30 pm, the boy visited a banana field close to his village to gather a bunch of bananas. A family member later reported that he was found deceased due to an explosion from an unexploded remnant of war.
Ann Township is home to the headquarters of the Western Military Region Command. In the conflict with AA, the ruling forces installed numerous landmines as a defense against AA assaults. The entire Ann Township, along with the western command headquarters, was seized by the Arakan Army (AA) on December 20, 2024.
Residents reported the discovery of unexploded bombs and landmines in their villages and in the gardens of civilians. According to information gathered by the Narinjara news agency, a total of 21 civilians lost their lives and 81 suffered severe injuries due to landmine and ordnance explosions in Rakhine State between January 1 and December 31, 2025.
As per the information provided by Narinjara, 56.9 percent of the incidents were attributed to landmines, whereas the other 43.1 percent resulted from unexploded ordnance and ordnance explosions.
