2020 general election ballots and records destroyed after prescribed period

The ballot papers, ballot certificates, election documents and records used in the 2020 general election were burned beyond the specified period, according to the Ministry of Information.


The ballot papers, ballot certificates, election documents and records used in the 2020 general election, which exceeded the specified period, were burned by a board formed to burn them at the premises of No.6 Basic Education High School, Ward No.10, Anawrahta Road, Botahtaung Township, Yangon Region, from 10 am on February 6.


The burning was carried out by the Township Election Commission Sub-Chairman, Secretary and members, the Deputy Township Administrator from the Township General Administration Department and members of the board formed to burn the election records, and the election documents and records that had exceeded the specified period were burned by an eight-member burning team led by the Township Election Commission Sub-Chairman U Khin Win.


While the documents were burned and destroyed, firefighting personnel led by Township Deputy Fire Chief U Akar Min Din carried out fire prevention and extinguishing activities.


Similarly, on February 4, a 14-member team led by U Khin Win, the chairman of the township election commission, burned and destroyed the ballot papers, ballot certificates, election documents and records used in the 2020 multiparty democratic general election in Dagon Myothit (Seikkan) Township.
